Dr. Anton Bizzell Selected as Small Business Person of the Year for Maryland by U.S. Small Business Administration

DR. ANTON BIZZELL SELECTED AS SMALL BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR FOR MARYLAND BY U.S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

March 11, 2020 (Washington, DC) – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced that Anton C. Bizzell, M.D., President and CEO of The Bizzell Group (Bizzell), has been selected as Maryland’s Small Business Person of the Year for 2020. The recognition comes ahead of National Small Business Week, where SBA acknowledges over 50 exceptional individuals from across the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam who have not only realized their dreams of entrepreneurship but have also been tremendous job creators, helping to expand our economy.

Since 2010, the Prince George’s County based, Bizzell has created hundreds of jobs locally and nationally, generated record revenue, and been ranked by Inc. Magazine and The Washington Business Journal as one of the fastest growing small businesses in the U.S. Bizzell has been at forefront of public health issues, including the opioid epidemic, the Ebola crisis, and the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

In addition, Dr. Bizzell is intimately and actively involved with several community initiatives and non-profit organizations throughout Maryland. Dr. Anton Bizzell to join March of Dimes Maryland Market Board of Directors

Baltimore, MD, August 15, 2019 — Business and community leader, Anton C. Bizzell, M.D., President and CEO of The Bizzell Group, has been elected to the March of Dimes Maryland Market Board of Directors.

Dr. Anton Bizzell understands the importance of fighting for the health of all moms and babies. “As a public health advocate, I can’t think of a more important cause,” he says. “When you support the March of Dimes, you make a statement that you want to live in a world in which healthy moms and strong babies are a priority for us all.” Dr. Bizzell has spent most of his career on public health issues related to access to and quality of medical, substance abuse and behavioral health services. He has extensive experience in collaborating and interacting with professional health and community organizations, as well as expert knowledge in identifying and treating medical diseases in the fields of primary care, mental health and substance abuse.

April 8, 2019 (Lanham, MD) – President and CEO of The Bizzell Group (Bizzell), Anton Bizzell, M.D., will partner with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation for the launch of Sharing Solutions – a campaign and online resource designed to help local businesses combat the opioid crisis.

“We have heard from many small and midsize business owners struggling to find a way to address prescription drug misuse among their employees and families, said Carolyn Cawley, president of the Chamber Foundation. “Employer specific resources are thin, and they’re scattered. Our campaign collects and curates credible resources to help employers get what they need more quickly.”

Dr. Bizzell, a U.S. Chamber Foundation Fellow, will serve as the substance abuse expert, advising The Chamber Foundation’s campaign, which will include a tour of ten hard-hit cities, where workshops and community education will be provided. Dr. Bizzell will lead and moderate panel discussions with other business leaders, sharing innovative solutions to help employers address the opioid crisis through changes in business processes, employee engagement, core competencies, and community outreach.

“Businesses at the core of our communities can help solve this public health crisis – starting with our families and people in the workplace,” said Dr. Bizzell. “As a business owner, I am honored to be a part of this movement, saving lives and making resources accessible to the people who need them most.”

Dr. Bizzell has more than 20 years of combined clinical, research, health services, policy and management experience with various private and public organizations and agencies within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), including Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and National Institutes of Health (NIH). Most of his career has been spent on public health issues related to access and quality of medical, substance abuse and behavioral health services. Dr. Bizzell founded Bizzell in order to continue to drive change and address public health issues.

Bizzell CEO Appointed to CSAP National Advisory Council

In recognition of his extensive expertise in substance abuse prevention and treatment, Anton Bizzell, M.D., CEO of The Bizzell Group (Bizzell), has been appointed by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to serve on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) National Advisory Council. Dr. Bizzell’s appointment is effective through November 2018.

CSAP leads the development of national substance abuse prevention policies and programming, promotes the adoption of proven, science-based substance abuse prevention approaches and helps states and communities build their capacity to implement these approaches. As a member of the CSAP National Advisory Council, Dr. Bizzell will support this mission by making recommendations on agency and center activities and policies, in addition to reviewing grant and cooperative agreement submissions. “It’s a great honor and responsibility to work at a national level to help states and communities find proven and practical ways to prevent substance abuse and reduce the impact this disease has on individuals, families and communities,” said Dr. Bizzell.

Since earning his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Virginia, Dr. Bizzell has spent the majority of his career working to improve access and quality of care issues for people experiencing substance abuse, mental illness or complicating health issues. He has more than 20 years of combined clinical, research, health services, policy and management experiences with various private and public organizations, including his service as a Medical Officer at both the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, NIH, and the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, SAMHSA. Dr. Bizzell has also provided leadership to projects of national significance including CSAP’s Prevention Fellowship Program, SAMHSA’s Federal Drug Free Workplace Technical Support contract, and SAMHSA’s Prescription Drug Misuse and Abuse project.
