Bizzell Awarded a Contract to Provide Technical Assistance to HRSA’s Division of Home Visiting and Early Childhood Systems

The Bizzell Group (Bizzell) is pleased to announce that our firm was recently awarded a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract to provide technical assistance to the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) / Division of Home Visiting and Early Childhood Systems (DHVECS).

This contract comes at a critical stage for HRSA, MCHB and DHVECS. The Maternal Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) initiative was designed to improve health and development outcomes at the child and family levels for those at risk, through improvement and coordination of health and related services at the community, State, and Federal levels.

Three years into the MIECHV initiative, the impact of the significant Federal investment is being assessed. Data will be analyzed to assess MIECHV grantee performance and outcomes for families, as well as to assess the impact of the program investment overall. Technical assistance (TA) will be intensified to support struggling grantees.

HRSA’s primary objectives for this task order are to conduct data and impact analyses for the MCHB DHVECS program and provide TA to grantees through comprehensive site visits, intensive performance improvement site visits, and general TA site visits.

“Research has long demonstrated improvements in child and family outcomes for participants in home visiting programs”, according to Anton Bizzell, M.D., CEO for Bizzell. “We are excited to partner with HRSA on this important initiative and look forward to providing the experience, substance, creativity, level of leadership, TA, data analysis, and other support required by HRSA.”

Bizzell Awarded a Contract to Develop a Curriculum for Treating Alzheimer’s Disease

The Bizzell Group (Bizzell) is pleased to announce that our firm was awarded a multi-year contract with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to develop a “Uniform Curriculum for the Identification and Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease for Primary Care Providers”. In designing a Uniform Curriculum to effectively identify and treat Alzheimer’s disease, Bizzell is developing training along the continuum of learning for health care providers which includes academic and health professional scholastic education for student trainees enrolled in health care training programs (e.g., schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and master’s and doctoral-level graduate training programs), continuing medical education and continuing education for geriatric health care professionals.

Alzheimer’s disease is an epidemic that continues to grow as people live to an older age. Experts believe as many as 5.4 million people in the U.S. have Alzheimer’s disease. According to the National Institute on Aging, the number of people with the disease doubles every 5-year interval beyond age 65. Government projections show that the number of people ages 65 and older in the United States is expected to grow from 40 million in 2010 to 72.1 million in 2030.

“Our company is honored to lead this important national effort for the Health Resources and Services Administration”, said Anton Bizzell, MD, CEO of Bizzell. “Alzheimer’s disease was the contributing factor in the loss of both my maternal grandmother and great-grandmother and the work is clearly needed with the number of Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease expected to more than triple by 2050.”

Bizzell CEO Contributes Chapter to The ASAM Principles of Addiction Medicine

Anton Bizzell, M.D., CEO of The Bizzell Group (Bizzell) celebrates the publication of the fifth edition of The ASAM Principles of Addiction Medicine.  The publication is the go-to textbook in the specialty field of addiction medicine, with the fifth edition providing core knowledge by “blending scientific principles underlying addiction with the practical essential of clinical addiction medicine.” The chapter, Ethical Issues in Addiction Practice was co-authored by Dr. Bizzell, H. Westley Clark, MD, JD, MPH, CAS, FASAM and Anthony Campbell, RPh, DO.

Dr. Bizzell brings significant experience within the health care community having served as a medical officer for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).   The chapter itself, details core ethical principles, aspects of dealing with denial, establishing an ethical stance, and potential future developments that could stimulate unprecedented paradigm shifts that may influence health care decision-making that would impact the disenfranchisement underlying health disparities in addiction treatment.

“It’s always an honor to be asked to participate in developing a narrative for something I’ve always been very passionate about,” Dr. Bizzell said in a statement.  “Its one thing to manage programs and work with people addressing addictive behaviors nationwide, but to be able to contribute to the field, and educate others is equally as rewarding. “
